Fires

GO Marine Surveyors have an established record performing P&I related surveys acting as an independent 3rd party inspector, investigating, and reporting marine incidents. GO Marine Surveyors has attended several major ship and engineroom casulties and provided invalube advise during and after the casulty.

Collisions & groundings

Gary has acted as an expert witness on several occasions by providing written and oral evidence to support legal proceedings. As a Member on the Lloyds Panel of Special Casualty Representative (SCR’s) Gary has attended on behalf of the underwriters concerned with several high-profile marine incidents.

Condition & Suitability Surveys

Gary has carried out various condition and suitability surveys on most types of commercial vessels in preparation for mobilizing to site.

Gary Owens

Principal Surveyor / Director

Prior to starting GO Marine Surveyors, Gary was the Principal Surveyor for ABL Group (Australia), responsible for H&M and P&I claims related to machinery failures, fires, groundings, and bunker disputes.

Gary has also carried out various condition and suitability surveys for major projects.

Gary spent several years with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) as a Port State Control Surveyor and with Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) as a Shipping Inspector/Examiner.

He has 20 years of seagoing experience on general cargo, bulk, and passenger ships and a further 24 years surveying vessels in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. He commenced his career in the Royal Australian Navy, during which time he served on both steam and gas turbine ships.

Gary has been involved in several major salvage operations and has represented various ship owners and government authorities as an expert witness.

Qualifications

  • Class 1 Marine Engineer (Motor) & Watchkeeper (Steam) Certificate of Competency
  • A member on the Lloyds Panel of Special Casualty Representative (SCR’s)
  • AMSA Accreditation Marine Surveyor
  • Bachelor of Business (Maritime Management)
  • Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety.
  • 1st Class Fitter & Machinist
